A photographic negative of the view of the Roanoke City Market looking north on First (Nelson) Street toward Campbell Avenue. The old market building and the old Hotel Roanoke are visible above the old railroad station in the middle background. On the right is an ornate wrought iron balcony on the Hartsook Building. The wooden barrel had been placed in the road to show the depth of the hole in the street. The North Carolina Liquor Company building is visible to the right of the market building.
