Scope & Content Postcard of the Viscose Silk Mills, Roanoke, Virginia, published by J. P. Bell Company, Inc., Lynchburg. Virginia. American Viscose opened a large rayon plant in Southeast Roanoke in October 1917. It was the largest rayon mill in the world and was one of the largest industries in the City, second only to the Norfolk & Western Railway. The plant closed in 1958.
