Letter headed Pittsylvania 23 March 1834 from Abraham C. Shelton to "My Dear Friend" [Peachy R. Gilmer] explaining why he has not paid him a visit (extremely bad winter weather) and of his plans to move his family to "some rich health retreat" in the west and hopes Peachy will travel with him as far as Guyandotte and the great Ohio River, complains of ill health as he and his wife are suffering from rheumatism, mentions their friends Judge Leigh and Mr. Tucker, that Peachy's son George had spent the night with them recently and his family greatly enjoyed the visit and George is "set in to close hard study, begins to get business", mentions upcoming elections for representatives, complains about the United States Bank and that Virginia can charter as many banks as they want and he disapproves of all banks, and closes with best wishes to the family.
