                                Letter headed Grove Hill April 6th 1862 from Lucy Breckinridge to her brother John wondering about all the letters they have sent and he has not received, of plans for Julia to visit Gilmer at Orange C. H., Mother and Aunt Betsy both dream you are on your way home, they hope that Julia will leave little Nannie with them if the visit to Orange happens, but think she plans to take her to see her daddy, Brother James and his bride Fanny Burwell have left Grove Hill, about Dr. E. F. B. [Burwell] raising a company of men and then suggests he would look ridicules leading 70 men being drilled by Orderly Sergeant Thompson and suggests some men are raising a company merely to keep from being drafted into the militia, of the popularity of the game:Jack straws, that some of the leading citizens play as if the C. S. [Confederate States] survival depended on their winning the game. Emma Gilmer Breckinridge closes with a short paragraph to her son about their travel plans and his need for more clothing. |
