Letter headed "March 7th 1838" from Mary Gilmer at Hardin's Tavern, to her daughter, Lucy, care of Mr. Persico, Richmond. Discusses Lucy's need for clothing and advice for taking care of same. Sends a $30 draft for a new black dress and suggests persons who might help make the purchase. Gives an account of two students, John Taylor and a Jones from out of state, attacking a professor [at the University of Virginia]. They were captured and freed on $500 bonds. News of family and friends. Francis (Frank Gilmer) is living at the college and studying hard. |
