Buddy The Admiral Graf Spee was named for Admiral Maximilian von Spee, commander of the East Asia Squadron during WWI. The vessel was completed in 1936, and sailed under the service of Nazi Germany during WWII. After an attack from British in December of 1939, orders were given to scuttle, or deliberately sink, the vessel off the coast of Uruguay. In 2004, a salvage team funded by Uruguay began work on raising the Admiral Graf Spee as the wreck was a hazard to navigation. |
