Letter headed "Buchanan March 5 [1859]" from Julia M. Anthony to Eliza Breckinridge [in Williamsburg] telling of many illnesses in Buchanan, that life is very dull in Botetourt County, about her upcoming trip to Richmond to get treated for a cough which is slowly going away, her friends at the "Boarding School" had been to a party at her brother's home and gave a graphic description of the talking by one of the young men: "there's a 'cheer' here if any of you want to set down", "another I understand asked the pleasure of 'jogging' with one of the young ladies", inquires about her old school friends in Williamsburg, and closes with overwritten lines telling of the death of James Allen who had died on March 6, 1859. |
