Letter (A) and envelope (B) from P.S. Murrill to Florence Saunders, dated July 19, 1918. Letter is on the National War Work Council of the Young Men's Christian Associations of the United States, Camp Lee, Petersburg Va letterhead. The letterhead takes up the top fourth of the paper. Letter is as follows: July 19, 1918 My dear Miss FLorence: I have heard the sd news of your deep loss, and theough I cannot say anythign to make the blow less terribe, yet I would not have you think me indifferent to your sorrow. Yourn father had three great loves: for his God, for his country, for his family He gave his heart to God, his boys to his country, his very self to his family. Could htere be a man who could do more? I loved your father and his going on before is a personal loss to me. I am trusting that you and your loved ones will be comforted by the Master and that you will take muc consolation from teh hietage of nobility your father left you. Sincerely your friend, P.S. Murrill The envelope contains the YMCA logo in the upper left corner, with 'Camp Lee' written between the logo and the 'With the Colors." Envelope has a clear postmark from Petersburg, Virginia, Jul 19 1918 Lee Branch. Addressed to Miss Florence Saunders Bedford VA. Remnants of a purple 3 cent stamp in the upper right hand corner. |
