Letter from Anna Maria (Saunders) Preston at Wyndhurst, Albermarle County, Virginia, to her mother, Alice (Watts) Saunders, expressing her concern for her health and saying that she also suffers from neuralgia brought on by exposure; describing the problems of building their new house at Wyndhurst because of the expense and shortage of timber; telling of refashioning a muslin dress by soaking it in borax; thanking her mother for sending soap and apples and offering beef; saying that her husband, Thomas Lewis Preston, will take hogs to Roanoke to be slaughtered; giving accounts of numerous friends, most of them kin to her husband, Constance who is soon leaving, Preston Hampton, Sallie Hampton, Sarah Buchanan (Preston) Floyd, Eliza Henry (Preston) Carrington, Mary Jane Davis, Walter Eugene Preston, and Jane Carter; telling at length about a cousin John Montgomery Preston recovering from a wound, staying with the Carringtons, tended by Lizzie Cummings; saying that Mary Jane Davis (her brother's mother-in-law) is moving and has left some furniture for her; reporting that her horse has been hurt; telling of a visit from her niece Alice Fleming Saunders; and discussing plans for Christmas.
