An E. W. Schutte letter |
Dates of Creation |
1894 |
Scope & Content |
Written on paper that has a furniture-company heading. Schutte is writing to Bernard to inform him that he had expected to visit the "Cockade City" (Petersburg) in the summer and had hoped to walk over old ground and stand over more of the Jerusalem Plank Road. That was where Schutte helped build one of the forts during July 1864. But he states that "man proposes and God disposes" as a fire in their factory has upset all his plans. He hopes to visit in the next summer. Schutte tells Bernard he is doing good work in his book by publishing the records of the daily life of the boys who toted the musket. He wished Bernard much success in getting the subscriptions and hopes for an early completion, and the delivery of the book. |
