Letter headed New Orleans 26 March 1834 from ? H. Martin thanking Peachy for his latest letter, commenting on conditions in New Orleans, the differences in climate, habits, religion, and soil, assumes that if he stays in New Orleans he will have Catholic burial, reports on all the men that Peachy might know in New Orleans, including Marshall Jones, Mr. Lee, and Jessie Harrison with some idea of any success they may be having in their law practice, mentions he has married now, tells of the city shutting down about four months each year on account of the unhealthy season, that "we are very rapid in our legal proceedings and consequently our pleadings are mostly written". He and his wife send regards to the family. This letter is addressed to Mr. P. R. Gilmer, Hardins Tavern, Albemarle County, Virginia. The post mark stamp is from New Orleans and is dated March 26 and amount of postage paid was 35 [cents]. |
