J. E. Crow letter of February 11, 1893 |
Dates of Creation |
February 11, 1893 |
Scope & Content |
Mr. Crow informs Bernard that his books have arrived and he is canvassing among the old veterans. He says they are interested but most, as a rule, do not have the money and have a hard time raising any money. Crow asks Bernard if he has noticed that very few old soldiers have succeeded. Many say that when they entered the Confederate Army, they were too young to know about business matters, and when released from service, they were too old to learn. Crow says he hopes to sell what he has. He requests more, and will do his best to get them into the hands of the veterans. He thanks Bernard for sending him his own copy and says his family regard it as an heirloom. Dr. Charles B. Sanders, of Acton, Massachusetts, the officer whom Crow captured at the Crater, has written twice, and will buy a copy of "War Talks of Confederate Veterans". He asks whether Bernard has heard from Sanders? He then asks Bernard if he discovered the name of the officer in company "D" to whom he (Crow) gave Sanders' sword. Crow would like to get it and give it back to Sanders, if possible. |
