Letter headed "Leigh May 12th 1841" from Peachy Gilmer and Mary Gilmer to John Gilmer, in Howard, near Alexandria, D. C. and carried by Mrs. Meriweather. They tell of Peachy's activities (several words misspelled), John about his birthday, describing the tea roses and how beautiful they are this year, mentions that the servants are sending their best to Marse John. Mary Gilmer writes about expecting Lucy to return home soon from Nelson, deaths in Mrs. Slaughter's family, a new granddaughter from Cary and Emma Breckinridge, late frost killing the garden, and a new baby born to Mary Chism. |
