Letter headed August 17th [1908 by postmark on letter's envelope] to Julia A. Breckinridge from her niece Stella A. Dyer giving reasons why she has not answered a letter received from Julia 18 months earlier, mentions a family rift that was occurring at the time and that since then have found certain things to be true, with a long list of complaints about how hard life has been for them in Europe, mentions Julia and Nannie's problems (no specific details). She notes her mother has been accepted in the Richmond Chapter of the Colonial Dames and has not attended any meeting. Stella would like for Julia to write the Chapter and explain that Stella's mother has been gravely ill and could not attend any meetings and hope that Julia will take her to Richmond for one of the meetings when Stella and her mother return to America. She tells how to reply to her letter as they have no permanent address and no luggage but a hat box. |
