Account statement and invoice for Fleming Saunders from M. Hollins & Co. for purchases of food, household and farm supplies, from January 1861 through December 1862; list includes about 250 items, each one dated, with quantities and unit prices indicated in most cases; total calculated at the bottom of each page and carried over; 6 credit items are included at the end of 1861, totaling $1193.48, mostly from sales of tobacco; opening balance was $904.10; at the end of 1861,$1162.22; credits from M. Hollins & Co. are included from 1862 for sales of flour, meal, oats, and tobacco and cash payments on the account, which stood at $640.11 on January 1, 1863, by when the outstanding balance was transferred to J. W. & G. H. Burch; besides purchases, includes some cash payments and services provided, notably travel and shipping to Fairfax County, Virginia, Orange County, Virginia, and (probably) Greenbrier River Bridge, Pocahontas County, Virginia (now West Virginia). Additionally, an account statement for Fleming Saunders dated May 10, 1869, includes purchases of salt, cotton, whiskey and an almanach from J. W. & G. H. Burch in 1863, credits from the sale of meal, a deduction agreed to in a compromise, a cash payment for Peter Saunders as executor for Alice (Watts) Saunders, and receipt from Slaughter & Craighill, attorneys for George H. Burch. for the final payment in full of the compromise. Filing notation on document says No.14 to 24. Pages are numbered 14 through 22 with three unnumbered pages at the end. Document is the final part of a running account statement continued from Object ID Numbers 2010.89.067, 2010.49.069, and 2010.49.083. Transcription by English Showalter accompanies the document. |
