Letter headed Oct. 28 [1862 by context] to Gilmer Breckinridge from his wife Julia telling of her fear that her letters are not being received by him, but hoping he will receive them when he returns through Lewisburg. She tells that Booker has returned with mules and wagon from the trip to Gauley Bridge (see October 10, 1862 letter), and she sent word to Uncle Jordan at the Bank about his check coming in, Bishop Johns has been visiting and confirmed several persons last Sunday, news of local visitors and deaths in the community, of little Nannie telling "Papa has gone to catch a Yankee", asks him to bring home shoes for two of the servants, if that is not possible to bring "leather", complains of another gloomy winter and tells of morning sickness and not being able to travel [she is pregnant again]. Mentions a paper on the Baltimore Inn he sent home, but without a postmark, she cannot tell where it is located. |
