A red ten dollar bill, dated 1864. From the Confederate States of America (CSA), Richmond. Banknote is marked with No. 5289 to left and right of center. Note is type 68, seventh in the series of notes issued by the CSA, and bears an image of horses pulling a cannon at center, and in the lower right corner an image of Robert M. T. Hunter. Hunter acted as CSA Speaker of the House until 1862. After the war, Hunter remained the Treasurer of Virginia until his death in 1885. Reverse of note is blue with $10 printed in each corner. |
