Dr. H. N. D. Parker letter |
Dates of Creation |
July 31, 1894 |
Scope & Content |
Parker is writing to Bernard informing him that he has received Volume One of War Talks of Confederate Veterans and the prospectus. He encloses payment for two copies of Volume One, and asks for extra copies of the prospectus so that he can distribute them to his Grand Army Post. Parker has looked over the book and approves of the content very much, and states that others who have interest in the late war should also approve. He will present the second copy to his Post commander (U.S. Grant Post #28, Dept. of Illinois). At the Post are members who are familiar with the surroundings of the Crater. A member has just returned from a visit to Petersburg, where he spent several days with Confederate Veterans, received a wonderful reception, and plans to make another visit. Future visitors may tire you and exhaust your hospitality. Parker visited Petersburg three years ago, met ex-Confederate Veterans, and also received a wonderful reception. In Petersburg is a merchant, Richard Irvin, who is an old neighbor and one of his teachers form early days. If Bernard had the time, perhaps he would make his acquaintance. Parker hopes to visit Petersburg within the year and will take the liberty to call upon Bernard. When the next volume is available, he will remit payment as he wants a copy. |
