Letter headed Friday Morning [probably August 16 or 23 from the data in the letter she is quoting her husband Gilmer's letter dated August 13 which was a Tuesday] to Eliza Breckinridge from her sister in law Julia Anthony Breckinridge telling of news from Gilmer in camp near Richmond, of the sick soldier Lt. Robinson who Gilmer has sent home to Amsterdam to recover from his illness, other information is repeated from this same letter (1969.51.610), the doctors say the men do not want to leave the hospitals because the local people have been so kind to them while sick, of forming a new regiment soon, about Billy Pegram fleeing Baltimore and passing through the Federal lines where a picket was sound asleep, Gilmer has a new uniform and is going to send the dischargeable (picture) home and she will show it to Emma, about Dr. Tom Bowyer wants to leave his company and join the artillery, but will be required to get another company to take the place of his, news about Wilson (slave) taking care of the Gilmer's washing and preventing it from being stolen while drying in the sun, news about the family and some visitors, her plans to send to Gilmer:butter, cakes, bread and pickles soon, of leaving her "old Boy" fan at Grove hill on her last visit and would like to have it returned, her baby has four upper teeth. |
