Scope & Content |
Letter headed Brenham [Texas], Mch. [March] 10th, 1867 to my dear little Nannie, daughter of Gilmer and Julia Breckinridge, in reply to a letter that Nannie had found a way to get Nina(?) to write for her and asks her to repeat her tactics to get Nina to write more often. Mentions Nannie's brother Gilmer likes to shoot his pop-gun, but needs to be careful not to shoot someone in the eye. Nannie mentions a Deborah chicken and Bassett replies "it is a most astonishing fowl" and he knows a gentleman named P. T. Barnum in Connecticut who would pay a big price for such a chicken, and mentions his children Eleanor and Lucy. |
