Letter headed "January 4th 1844" from John Gilmer [student at Washington College] in Lexington, Virginia to his brother, William, at Hardin's Tavern, Albemarle County, Virginia, with news of his visit to their sister, Emma Gilmer Breckinridge, at Botetourt, of his desire for William to mail him the National Intelligencer as soon as he has finished reading them as he feels his "entire ignorance on the subject of politics" and wants to improve his knowledge of our great men and their transactions, and closes with a plea for more money as he has spent the last $100 that William had previously sent. |
