Scope & Content |
Contains one brief page of an account intended for inclusion in Bernard's second volume of War Talks of Confederate Veterans. The unknown writer starts his letter by saying he is not proficient in any literary style but is willing to send some particulars about his four years of service in the war. He began his service in Western Virginia, under the leadership of Robert E. Lee, and where roads were few and the mountains were crowned with dense forest. One evening in the fall of 1861 Lee received orders from General William W. Loring. Sadly the account ends abruptly because of missing pages. |
