Manuscript appears to be memoirs of the author's (Sarah Johnson Cocke) life.Topics of interest include the meeting of Varina Davis, Jefferson Davis' wife, as well as meeting and conversing with other distinguished gentlemen and ladies. Much of the middle part of the text appears to reference high society gatherings and events which may indicate status of author. The final few chapters include events in her later years while there is an epilogue of sort in which she reflects on her final years. Should be noted that according to the text, Mrs. Cocke was at one point Mrs. Hugh Hagan, this would indicate a divorce. |
