Letter headed "Oak Lands January 1, 1845" from Mary Peach (Gilmer) to her sister Lucy Gilmer at Leigh, near Hardins Tavern, Albemarle, Virginia, telling of her visit to Grove Hill for Christmas and the people who were there, about the dull conversation and the fact that she is homesick to be with her family in Albemarle County, about the games they played with Mr. Wilmer being the leader in this enterprise and a few catty remarks about the young ladies competing for attention from their male visitors. Peach refers to herself as the "long-nosed Miss Peach Gilmer". |
