Bernard saved publicity clippings of places where he would give or had given a lecture. He would be invited to Confederate Veteran Camps, indoor or outdoor venues, and women's clubs. The audiences were both Union and Confederate Veterans, ladies, gentlemen and children. His lectures were on his recollections of his war time experiences, plus other war time events. To add to his talk he would show photographs via stereopticon views (a slide projector that combined two images to create a three dimensional effect). Note. In an announcement from Emporia, Virginia, a Colonel Barham is mentioned. It is believed this should be Colonel Parham instead. Quote - "...the lives of General Chambliss and Colonel Barham, after whom the camp of Confederate Veterans of this county is named." Chambliss and Parham both served as officers in the 41st Virginia Infantry |
