William G. Coyle letter |
Dates of Creation |
1896 |
Scope & Content |
This letter is from William G. Coyle to a Mrs. James B. Jones. No date is entered and the word copy is at the top. The "Dead Soldier" in this letter is also mentioned in Object ID 2009.75.074. Coyle writes (from New Orleans) to Mrs. Jones that Major General Eichelman has sent her letter (that she wrote to Eichelman), to Coyle. Enclosed with the letter was a copy of a paper by J. P. Williamson who read the paper to the A. P. Hill Camp of Confederate Veterans, and, also, a copy of a paper by W. E. Morrison. Morrison's paper related the circumstances of the burial of Francis E. Coyle of the Washington Artillery. (F. Coyle was found dead in the Presbyterian Church yard in Petersburg and was buried there). William Coyle informs Mrs. Jones that he is the brother of the dead soldier (Francis Coyle) found in the churchyard. He tells her it is very comforting to know, even at this late date, that his brother received the ministrations of his own Episcopal Church, and that her labor of love for the Confederates is appreciated. He asks her to see Bernard and order a copy of his book when it is published. |
