Notes, copies of correspondence, and plans assembled by P.H. Trout in 1935 regarding Black Horse Tavern. President Andrew Jackson purportedly overnighted at the Black Horse on his journeys between Nashville, Tennessee, and Washington, D.C. Included correspondence to Trout from Ben P. Ainsworth of Lexington, Virginia, places Jackson at the Blackhorse through statements made to Ainsworth by Hezekiah Kyle of Amsterdam, Virginia, who recalled seeing Jackson at the tavern when Kyle was a small boy.
9" x 11 1/2" binder containing 12 typewritten pages, 3 photographs, and 1 blueprint. The photographs were formerly affixed to a blank page but are now loose. The photographs have been separated and given their own Object ID #'s (2011.10.01-2011.10.03).
