Letter headed "Cincinnati January 6th 1845" from Anne S. Holcombe to her aunt, Emma W. Breckinridge, at Fincastle, Botetourt County, Virginia via Washington, telling of her experience since she moved to Cincinnati, gives family news, inquires about her friends in Virginia, comments that she "likes the white labour as it will be very pleasant if one of the servants don't please me just to dismiss her, there are plenty here who would gladly take her place. The trouble too of clothing them and taking care of them, is all taken off of you, which I consider a great thing gained". She also mentions her son Willie being vaccinated for smallpox and suggesting to Emma to have her children vaccinated and offers to send a scab from Willie's arm to prepare the vaccine. |
