Letter headed Oaklands, (Grove Hill crossed out), August 8th [1863 by context] from Eliza Breckinridge to her sister in law Julia Breckinridge, telling of her visit to Oaklands with the Watts family and lots of names mentioned of those she has seen there, she received a cool welcome when she visited Kate Bowyer at Greenfield, Dr. Bowyer has started a unit of the Home Guard in Fincastle and her father Cary Breckinridge, Sr. has joined to set a good example for some of the younger men who are afraid to join, that Tazewell Patton was killed at Gettysburg, but they are not getting much information about the battle and possible casualties and have not heard from any of her brothers. |
