This letter with no date [1851 from context] and headed "Solitude" was written by W. W. Preston to Mrs. Emma Breckinridge at Fincastle, Virginia, inquiring about letting Cary Breckinridge, Jr. come to Blacksburg to a school recently opened by a Methodist minister "Mr. White who is from the District of Columbia and is a graduate of one of the Northern Colleges.". He also asks that Emma visit him and tells of some other members of the family and their travels. |
