Letter headed "Leigh June 9th 1845, Monday evening" from M. R. "Peachy" Gilmer to her sister, Emma Gilmer Breckinridge, at Grove Hill near Fincastle, Virginia. Peachy tells of baby John Breckinridge who has been ill, probably from cutting teeth, family news, reports on flowers that Emma had brought to Leigh from Grove Hill, going to church, and mentions a whole host of friends and neighbors including their servants (slaves.) |
