Scope & Content |
Letter headed "Catawba April 11th 1838," mailed from Fincastle, from Emma Breckinridge to her sister, Lucy Gilmer, at Leigh near Hardin's Tavern, Albemarle, urging her to plan for a visit to Catawba in May when their brother George will be visiting. A report on the children -- Peach is not improving in her studies, needs a full time teacher; whooping cough is in the county; and James seems to have it (he still has the rash on his head). Mr. William Preston has come in from Missouri and speaks so highly of the country that Mr. Bowyer and Mr. Radford (his brother in law) and Mr. Breckinridge plan a trip on inspection in the autumn. |
