Scope & Content |
Letter headed Nov, 15, [1861] from Julia Breckinridge to her husband Gilmer in a camp near Centreville, Virginia telling of how lonely and sad she has been and hope to be more cheerful in this letter. A portion of this letter has dry rotted and is faded and crumbling, Julia's writing is poor and her thoughts are disjointed. She mentions having a recipe for rye coffee and offers to send it to Gilmer as she finds it almost as good as real coffee, of helping to make 48 overcoats for a company that Capt Yertleman is raising, inquires if Gilmer's men will be furnished any winter clothing, warns Gilmer not to carry any of her letters with him as she would not want the Yankees to read any of her mail if he were to lose one, closes with information about buying clothes for the baby, herself and the servants, and paying off some debt that Gilmer owes. |
