Letter headed "Grove Hill Feb. 23rd 1854" from Emma Gilmer Breckinridge to her son, Cary Breckinridge, Jr., at Chatham where he is living with his Uncle John Gilmer, telling of clothes that Cary needs, of her visitors and neighbors, about rainy weather and some small amount of flooding, preparation for planting in the spring, mentions "the children do not go to school after dinner, which we have about three o'clock", about his sister Mary Woodville who is having company also, and her husband, Dr. Woodville, has hired his cousin to be their farm manager, she is still looking for a picture of Gilmer, chastises Cary for not eating enough at dinner and not letting his Uncle John correct his letters so to improve his writing and spelling, and she invites him to come home about the first of May and bring some flower seeds for the garden. |
