Letter headed "Catawba July 24th 1837" from George Gilmer, with a portion added by his sister Emma Breckinridge whom he is visiting, to their mother, Mary Gilmer at Leigh, near Hardins Tavern, urging her to come to the Breckinridges as soon as possible while George is there. Mentions that their Gilmer cousins from Alabama are visitors, the Whartons and Sunday school. A note to brother William Gilmer asking about an overseer and giving terms of employment such as salary, meat, flour, and corn meal. |
