This is a letter to Bernard from a Mr. F. Tennyson Neely, presumably his intended publisher. The top entry is a reply stating that Neely wishes Bernard to submit a copy of his work and, after examination, they will promptly give him an answer. Following is the rough draft of a letter Bernard intends to send in reply to Neely's note. Bernard stated in his intended reply that he would ship the material for his second book, and would include pictures (photographs). He would also send a copy of his previously printed book "War Talks of Confederate Veterans". He intended his new book to be "Volume II War Talks of Confederate Veterans", and it should be in the same type and style as the first book. He suggested that it could be called Recollections of Confederate Veterans, but Bernard is leaving that decision up to the publisher. Bernard requested that he be notified if his work cannot be published. He stated that his idea of printing opinions from his first book, after the preface, should help sales of the new book as well as creating demand for the first volume. If Bernard's suggestion were accepted, then, as his own agent and attorney, Bernard (the author) could end the first edition and contract with this new publisher to print both books. He indicated that he was open to other suggestions. |
