   On letterhead marked "Thompson W. Goodwin, Roanoke, Virginia," this item is a letter to Mr. S. H. McVitty of Salem enclosing an 1862 Roanoke County note for fifty cents. There seems to be a jovial remark concerning Henry Anderson to the effect of "buying a quart."The signature is that of T. W. Goodwin, however, a note at the bottom of the page says,"list as gift from S. H. McVitty through E. P. Goodwin." See related Object ID 1963.16.6.a.

7. Goodwin Residence at 1010 Orchard Hill - A black and white photograph of the house at 1010 Orchard Hill, built by Thompson West Goodwin, between 1907 and 1908, in Roanoke, Virginia. Mr. Goodwin came to Roanoke in 1888 and later married Mary Terry, daugher of P. L. Terry. In 1900, Mr. Goodwin and ten other business associates chartered the Century Banking and Safe Deposit Company with $100,000 capital. They took over the old headquarters of the National Exchange Bank on the southeast corner of Jefferson Street and Salem Avenue. In 1914 he became manager of Peoples Perpetual Building and Loan Association. Mr. Terry died on January 20, 1933. He was President of Peoples Perpetual Building and Loan Company at the time of his death.
