   Letter headed "Point of Honor, Oct 15th" from Martha Daniel to Lucy Gilmer at Catawba, carried by Lucy's brother Harmer. Year was determined by a letter from Ruth H. Blunt (Object ID 1969.51.287B) along with identifications of other persons named in this letter. Letter is newsy about things in Lynchburg, but does not mention Frank Gilmer's death earlier in the month of October.

   This letter headed "Pittsylvania Feb 2nd 1852" from Mary Gilmer to her daughter, Emma Breckinridge at Fincastle, in Botetourt County, Virginia, telling of the death of Jane Preston Gilmer, who was married to George Gilmer and they had lost a baby boy born and died on January 25, 1852 just a few days before her mother died.
