    Letter headed "Tuesday evening," but not dated, from Mother M. [Mary] Gilmer to her daughter, Emma W. Gilmer, at New London, delivered by Mr. Irvine. Emma is a student at New London, and her mother is waiting to return a "small book" to her, tells of a surprise visit by Dr. Floyd, along with the young Washington who "has graduated and has a fine open countenance and quite the Gentleman in his appearance in a full suit of black."
