1. Alleghany Club - The Sigma Alpha Club, which later became the Alleghany Club in 1911, was a refuge for young men of good families to gather for a drink or play poker in a gentlemanly manner. They held many dances which were a delight to the women. Most members, when older, joined the Shenandoah Club, which later absorbed the Alleghany Club. The club was located at 915 Jefferson St. The above members were: (seated) Clair Snyder, Dick McDowell amd Richard Royer; (standing) Sam Staples, Harvey White, W. W. S. Butler, Jr; Dick Hobbie, Joe Hunter, Strother Jones and Paul Hunter. Sigma Alpha was the emblem on the skull, which is being held by Dick McDowell.
