2. Creekside #1 - Watercolor on cotton rag of blue mountains in the background and a marshy river in the foreground. Artist signed lower right corner in graphite. Miriam Chrystella McCoy Meador (1921-2001), known locally as Chrys, was a Salem artist who recieved the Walter Biggs Award in 2000. Attached to the back of the frame (and discarded): In a self-description of her work, Chrys said, "The process of art is constant. Seeing with the mind's eye is very important. There is such an excitement in other people's responses - what they bering with their experience to my experience." In 1961, Chrys began to focus her attention on art by studying with many local, regional and nationally-known artist teachers in both classes and workshops. Chrys' paitnings have been included in many corporate and private collections here and abroad.

3. Fluke Tavern Andirons - Pair of decorative wrought iron andirons that were used, according to family tradition, in the Fluke Tavern in Blue Ridge, Virginia, along the Lynchburg-Salem Turnpike. Andirons have patterned plinths with arch shaped legs, and end in a spade-like finial. Andirons were most likely made from iron mined from Cloverdale Furnace, one of Botetourt's many furnaces, as it was the closest to the tavern.

   Letter headed Pattonsburg May 3rd, 1861 to his wife Julia from Gilmer Breckinridge who is in a Calvary unit and has been to Salem returning yesterday, telling news of Grove Hill, mentions that their baby is now walking, writing letters to collect money, people are waiting to talk to him and he plans to write again soon.
