3. Citizens Undertaking Establishment, Inc. - A black and white photograph of Roy W. Clark, manager of Citizens Undertaking Establishment, Inc., and first President of the Hunton Rescue Squad. We believe Mr. Clark is the man dressed in a suit, holding a cane, at the front of the car. This photograph was taken with his staff at Maher Field. The 1926 Roanoke City directory shows Citizens Undertaking Establishment located at 520 Commonwealth Avenue NE with Roy Clark as manager. Sometime around 1956, Edna P. Clark took over as president of the company. The last business entry found in the city directories was in 1964.

8. S.P. Hite Co., Inc. ruler - Wooden 15" ruler advertising S.P. Hite Co., Inc. household remedies and flavoring extracts. 20th century, American. The ruler side lists the types of remedies and extracts sold by the company; the other side shows their advertising labels. One side of the ruler indicates: "Hite's HOUSEHOLD REMEDY, Hite's Flavoring EXTRACTS, S. P. Hite, CO. INC., ROANOKE, VA." The other side of the ruler indicates: "Hite's ASPIRIN, BORAX, CAMPHOR, COUGH SYRUP, CASTOR OIL, COLD TABLETS, EPSOM SALTS, ESSENTIAL OILS, FLAVORING EXTRACTS. Hite's IODINE, IRON, MERCUROCHROME, MINERAL OIL, PEROXIDE, QUININE, RUBBING ALCOHOL, SALICYLIC ACID, SPICES, ETC." According to Raymond Barnes's "History of the City of Roanoke", in 1905 the S.P. Hite Company was operating in Staunton, Virginia; some Roanoke capitalists bought the controlling stock, then leased the Fishburn Tobacco Factory brick building facing Loudon Ave., NW preparatory to moving the concern to Roanoke.
