1. Novelty, paper fan. - Novelty, paper fan promoting the July 4, 1916 Independence Day Parade, Roanoke, Virginia. 20th century, American. The fan has a wooden handle. On one side of the fan is a color drawing of an American Bald Eagle. The eagle with its wings expanded is on top of a wooden perch; it is gripping the American flag in its beak, pulling it away from the perch to unfold the flag. At the top of the other side of the fan, the following is printed in red: "Souvenir of ROANOKE'S PATRIOTIC PARADE, July 4, 1916, OUR COUNTRY FIRST". Below this, advertisments are printed in red and blue on the left and right sides of the fan. On the left side is printed: "W.E.
