Archie Stover, Crossing Watchman. - Archie Stover sat up in the little elevated crossing watchman's shanty in the background during weekdays while local mixed freight Train Nos. 13 and 14 switched freight cars on the tracks nearby. Because they moved across Cave Street behind Stover so frequently, a watchman was required to lower the gates manually as the freights approached. At night the gates were operated automatically.
