4. Air Brake Repair Diagrams - Maroon notebook holder with pencil and pocket. Notebook itself is full of ink drawings and diagrams relating to N&W air brake repairs and pipe fitting. Pencil is a purple Diablo copying pencil No. 213 with a silver cap, and advertises the Chesapeak & Ohio. 1910 and 1974 are both written in the front cover, and 1917 is written in the back. Additionally, about halfway through the notebook, there is a transcription of a letter concerning Isaac Wade, which reads: Jan 1 1918 To whom it may concern: This will certify that I have treated Mr. Isaac Lewis Wade from time to time for the last three years. He developed pulminary tuberculosis early in the winter of 1915 was admitted to the Catawba Sanitorium March 8, 1915 and remained there until the 18th of August 1915 and was disharged as improved. His general condition has steadily approved but had two hemorrages in the spring of 1917. He show dullness at apex of right lung with same moist rases. Very truly yours, J. E. Huff, M.D. by J. L. 6. Atlantic, Mississippi, and Ohio Railroad Locomotive - Black and white photograph of locomotive No. 57 with a hopper car labeled A.M. & O.R.R., which stands for the Atlantic, Mississippi, and Ohio Railroad, linking Norfolk to Bristol through Suffolk, Petersburg, Lynchburg, and Salem. Locomotive has an exaggerated cow catcher along the front, number 57 plate at the center front below a large light and smoke stack. Two men stand at the window of the cab - one on the inside and one on the exterior. The hopper car, No. 37, is filled wil coal or some other dark material. Handpainted on the side of the hopper car is AM & O RR. The O looks more like an S. A wood sideboard house with a brick chimney sits in the direct background, followed by several other houses to the l eft. A wooden slatted fence is situated at the right edge of the image enlosing the backyard of the house in the immediate background. The AM&O was a precurser to Norfolk & Western, based out of Roanoke in 1882.
