9. National Business College - A series of four black and white photographs of National Business College, founded in 1886 in Roanoke, Virginia by J.A. Trimmer, a leader in business education. It offers a degree and shorter diploma courses in all fields of business. Modern teaching methods make this school outstanding. There are 26 colleges located in five states: 7 in Virginia, 6 in Kentucky, 6 in Tennessee, 6 in Ohio, and 1 in Indiana. In 2001 the name was changed to National College of Business and Technology.

10. National Business College, Roanoke, Virginia - A black and white photograph of the Coulter Building located at the southwest corner of the intersection of South Jefferson Street and Franklin Road. The primary occupant of the building at the time this photograph was taken was National Business College which offered practical business courses. The college was accessed through an arch on the Franklin Road facade of the building which can be seen in the photograph. Commercial space was leased on the street level, the primary tenant being Peoples Drug Store located at the street corner. Students could often be seen on the balcony overlooking the Medical Arts Service Center. More recently the building has been renovated with the local water authority occupying the ground floor and professional offices on the floors above. The service center has been razed and replaced by a parking lot. The Patrick Henry Hotel has been renovated.

13. Slicer's Hospital & National Business College - The attached paper says, "This is Slicer's Hospital which was on Franklin Road at Jefferson Street in 1917. The building later became the home of National Business College and only a portion of the former exterior is now visible. Slicer's Hospital was the hospital of Walter Stevenson Slicer, who went to the University College of Medicine, Richmond and graduated in 1904 and he was most likely born in 1880. Stevenson closed his hospital on July 1, 1918 to join the US Army where he became a Lieutenant, M.C.. He was in training at Fort Oglethorpe, Ga before he was stationed at Base Hospital 124, Camp Hancock, Ga. He was honorably discharged from the Army Jan 17. He had an operation to remove tonsils and adenoids on Jan 22 and died twelve hours later from a cerebral embolism. Slicer's Hospital was apparently chartered on Nov 1, 1917 by the State Corporation Commission with Dr. Slicer as president and treasurer and Mary Price Slicer as vice-president. The spot appears to be the present site of Western Virginia Water Authority.
