3. Clifton A. Woodrum and J.B. Fishburn - Clifton Alexander Woodrum was born in Roanoke, Virginia, in 1887, and went on to serve the citizens of the area as Commonwealth Attorney for the City of Roanoke(1919-1922), Judge of the Corporation Court for the City of Roanoke, and at age 35 as United States Congressman from the sixth district (1922-1945). Woodrum was an affable and energetic figure, and his popularity was aided by his activity in fraternal and service clubs in the area. He had memberships in the Eagle and Moose Lodges, the Fraternal order of the Elks, and the Roanoke Booster Club. As a Mason he achieved the honorary 33rd degree. This photograph appears to be of a Roanoke Booster Club event with Woodrum flanked by a well- dressed young lady on his right and on his left by J.B. Fishburn (holding a cake) and another similarly dressed unidentified young man. The Boosters would take junkets to towns in the region, often by rail, to stimulate commerce and legend has it that they presented a cake when they reached their destination.
