To the right, is the Bannister Infirmary For Sick Horses and Dogs (operated by Harry Bannister, vet surgeon), and a one-story wooden stable. The front of the photograph is crisscrossed with power lines. The photograph is signed by Stone with the #16831 printed on it. Fire Station No. 1 was designed by the firm of Huggins and Bates of Lynchburg, and modeled after Independence Hall in Philadelphia. It is an example of Georgian Revival architecture and has served the city of Roanoke for over 100 years.

Fire Station No. 2, circa 1895 - A black and white photograph taken at Roanoke Fire Station No. 2, circa 1895, showing two firemen seated on a horse-drawn fire wagon coming through the double doors onto the street. The men are identified as Captain J. R. Bean (left) and fireman Joseph C. Wade on the reverse side of the photograph. Bean was one of the first paid firefighters in Roanoke, referred to as "regular men" in 1903. The fire station is constructed of bricks and the street is paved with bricks. Note that this photograph appears to be a cropped version of Object ID 1974.31.12.
