2. Blue Ridge Collectibles Rockledge Inn - Ceramic sculpture, designed and painted to look like Rockledge Inn, which burned in 1976, on top of Mill Mountain. The L-shaped building has a wrap around porch along the exterior, and gabled windows and roof along the yellow painted portion of the building. 3. Contract for the construction of a tavern at Mill Mountain - 1891

   Contract between F. D. Booth and the Roanoke Gas and Water Company to create a tavern at Mill Mountain. The drawings and specifications were created by George T. Pearson. Contract identifies all the specifications for said tavern. Contract is on dark blue - blueprint style paper.    Quote or estimate for the completion of construction based off Alex B. Mahood's drawings for Rockledge Inn. Envelope (b) is addressed to Mr. W.P. Henritze at P.O. Box 732, postmarked November 2 from Bluefield WV. Two red two cent stamps are pasted in the upper right hand corner of the envelope, both with profile images of George Washington. 6. Glass paperweight with black and white photo. - Glass paperweight with fluted sides. Black and white photo of "INCLINE" Railway at Mill Mountain, Roanoke, Virginia. The photo shows Mill Mountain with the railway ascending to the top. A horse drawn carriage and automobile are depicted in front of arch indicating "INCLINE". The words "MILL MOUNTAIN INCLINE ROANOKE, VA" are shown at the bottom of the paperwieght. According to "A History Of Roanoke" by Raymond P. Barnes, Christopher Markley was given the contract for grading the road bed and to lay two sets of iron rails furnished by the Roanoke Iron Company. Two cars were manufactured by the J.G. Brill Company of Philadelphia. Rails were laid, the big electric motors installed atop the mountain and the two cars were in position by 6 July 1910. The scenic railway opened 14 August 1910 to accomodate 1,500 passengers the first day. A trip up or down the mountainside could be made in four minutes at a round trip fare of 25 cents. (A coach back in the 1890's required three hours for the trip). On the mountain, Rockledge Inn was reburnished to offer comfortable rooms and excellent cuisine. Near where the big star is located a new timber built observatory was erected with a powerful searchlight on the platform.

7. Mill Mountain Loop - This black and white photograph of Mill Mountain Road in Roanoke, Virginia circa 1940 provides a birds eye view of the Mill Mountain Loop in which the road up the west side of the mountain turns sharply to the west and then loops over itself. At the time the photograph was taken this road provided the only access to the top of the mountain and the Rockledge Inn located there. The Henritze residence known as Rockledge is located beside the loop just out of view.

Mill Mountain Rockledge Inn - Rockledge Inn,a historic Inn, clubhouse, and theater, opened in 1892 (built by the Roanoke Gas Company for $10,500) was finally destroyed by fire in 1976 after surviving a fire in 1939. Originally built as an Inn, it had no registered guests until access up the mountain was built. The road was built by Mr. Henritze at a cost of $92,000 0r $145,000, opened in 1925
