1. Fabric campaign banner - Sixth District Democratic Party banner utilized by Clifton A. Woodrum's re-election campaign in the 1940 federal election. The fabric banner, which is hand painted, has brass grommets at the corners. Woodrum served in the United States Congress from 1923 until 1945. He effectively represented his district, obtaining funding for bridges, the Post Office building (now the Commonwealth of Virginia Building), and the airport now known as Roanoke Regional Airport and formerly known as Woodrum Airport, but the most noteworthy of the accomplishments on behalf of his constituents was the use of his committee influence to have the Veterans Administration Hospital located in the Roanoke Valley. Always an important employer, the hospital had a full time staff of 1,712 employees as of mid 2009. Henry Wallace, who was elected as Franklin D. Roosevelt's vice presidential running mate in 1940 was dropped from the Democratic Party ticket after one term and was replaced by Harry S Truman as the vice presidential candidate in 1944. Harry F. Byrd was re-elected in the 1940 campaign and continued to represent Virginia in the United States Senate until 1965.

2. Martha Anne Woodrum, 1949 - A black and white photograph taken in 1949 upon a visit to Beechcraft Corporation by Martha Anne Woodrum, a well known woman pilot from Roanoke, Virginia, and Betty Skelton, a stunt flyer who put on some shows in Roanoke and in England. The two women are seated in the cockpit of a Beechcraft airplane.

3. Martha Anne Woodrum, 1950 - A black and white photograph of Martha Anne Woodrum and Bob Donahoe, manager of Woodrum Field, the Roanoke, Virginia regional airport. Miss Woodrum was a well-known pilot. She is riding on a motor bike sidecar driven by Mr. Donahoe. The sidecar has "Woodrum Field" printed on the front. The motor bikeand sidecar formerly belonged to Wes Hillman, who bought them from Bobby Peters.

4. Martha Anne Woodrum, 1950 - A black and white photograph of Martha Anne Woodrum (later Mrs. Jack Zillhardt) shown with her Beechcraft Bonanza, the plane in which she won the Transcontinental Air Race in 1950. Miss Woodrum was sponsored in the race by Roanoke furniture manufacturer Johnson-Carper. The airplane has "Fashion Trend" printed on the side. Miss Woodrum is holding her trophy from the race and they are shown at Woodrum Field, now Roanoke Regional Airport, with the tower in the background.

5. Martha Anne Woodrum In Her Office - A black and white photograph of Martha Anne Woodrum (later Mrs Jack Zillhardt) shown in her office at Woodrum Field at what is now known as the Roanoke Regional Airport. Soon after becoming a licensed pilot circa 1940 Martha Anne operated a flight school and charter service and later an aircraft sales and service operation at Woodrum Field. She was the first woman in Virginia to earn an instrument rating. A most adventuresome lady and award winning pilot, she was born on September 1, 1916 and died on May 22, 2002. The airport facilities were dedicated as "Woodrum Field" on October 13 1941 in honor of her father, Clifton Alexander Woodrum, Congressman, who had worked successfully to bring airmail service to Roanoke and in 1941 secured $560,000 in federal funds for airport improvements.
